The Debt
After building a television ministry with her husband from humble beginnings to an empire with more than 40 million viewers, Emma Rose and Abel Howard receive a shock. A man claiming to be Emma Rose’s son, born out of wedlock 28 years earlier, resurfaces, shaking the foundations of a strong business, relationship, and personal faith.
This story is one of redemption and forgiveness. I enjoyed reading it because it made me think about how I should always be open to the guiding of the Holy Spirit and be willing to allow Him to lead me. It is also brings out the fact that God makes all things good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.
Emma Howard truly discovered these things when her troubled past catches up with her through a phone call she receives. She and her husband, Alex, who pastors a mega church in Wiltshire, Kentucky, face changes in their Christian walk that are overwhelming and challenging.
I enjoyed the book, but I also know that God calls us in different ways to lead people to Christ. In The Debt, God used Emma and her past to reach and minister to many people. The most amazing thing to me was how God redeemed her and used her past to bring Him glory. Even if we are not called in the same way as Emma, God has a plan and a purpose for each one of us if we will allow Him to work in our lives.
The Debt issues a challenge to the reader to follow Christ into unexplored and unexpected places. As you read the story, allow God to speak to your heart and be willing to go where He leads and then give Him all the glory because He does what we cannot do on our own.
Christine.
