A Time to Dance
Synopsis:
John and Abby Reynolds were the perfect couple, sharing a love born of childhood friendship and deep family ties. They are envied by their friends, cherished by their children, admired by their peers. But after surviving twenty-one years of love, loss, and laughter, of raising a family in their lakeside home, John and Abby are about to lose it all.
One the verge of having an affair, John is no more the man Abby married than she is the long ago girl of his dreams. They are strangers whose days of dancing seem gone forever, and finally they make the saddest decision of all. They gather their three children to tell them the news, but before they can speak, their daughter makes an announcement of her own–a joyous one.
Review:
Even though the story is a good one, it is somewhat predictable. I have to admit, however, that I always learn something from Karen’s books. In this case, nurturing a marriage is top priority. John and Abby learn that the hard way.
Another insight I got from the book is that it is really about prayer and listening to God and maintaining a close relationship with Him.
Nicole, John and Abby’s daughter, is a key character in this story. She listens and responds to God’s call for her to pray for her parents. Though she doesn’t understand the significance of this call nor her prayers, she obeys.
God uses Kade, their son, as well, to unite the family. Kade isn’t even aware that he is being used by God, but that is what I think is so great about Him.
You see, God is working even when we don’t realize it!
A Time to Dance is a sweet story with a home and children everyone would like to have—but which many do not. The main point is to see how God works in the lives of believers when they go through struggles and pain.
It is a good reminder to me to be sensitive to God’s leading and to pray when he tells me to do so.
