The Gifted
Synopsis:
When an earthquake rocks a California town, Bree, Carl, and Andy are pulled from the rubble untouched…but changed! They soon realize that something miraculous happened during the earthquake–something supernatural. Bree can “see” visions; Carl “knows” where to dig to find the injured; and Andy quotes Scripture, offering hope and advice. But how long will these changes last? Will they still have a passion for witness if their gifts fade? Understanding their newly acquired powers is difficult enough. But when the gifts suddenly vanish, even greater questions arise about the origin and obligations of these miraculous gifts from above.
Review:
The Gifted is much like the book The Listener. In fact, they are written as separate novels in one book titled Miracles. Both novels are about supernatural gifts. In this story the three friends find themselves miraculously healed and given tremendous supernatural gifts with which to spread the gospel of Jesus.
In The Gifted, however, an appeal is made to the body of Christ. The story makes it very clear that all of us in the kingdom of God have gifts that are to be used for His glory and to help and uplift each other. It is a good story and like The Listener makes you realize what God has called us do whether or not we have a supernatural gift.
The Holy Spirit is our guide and will use us and our experiences if we allow Him to move in our lives.
I would encourage you to read both stories, The Listener and The Gifted, and be challenged to tell people about the Lord Jesus Christ. Even though in these stories the people have gifts that most of us do not have, the message is that of commitment and obedience to God. He will lead you and prompt you to speak and spread the good news of Jesus.
